GUERRA NA UCRÂNIA: E NO FIM GANHA A CHINA?

A Chinese official has criticised Nato for its comments that the country had an obligation as a member of the UN security council to uphold international law and help bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg called on China to “clearly condemn the invasion and not to support Russia”, adding that China had an obligation to condemn the invasion.
In response to a question about Stoltenberg’s comments, the Chinese mission to the EU compared the war in Ukraine with Nato’s accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade in 1999, further highlighting Beijing’s argument that the western military alliance was at least partially responsible for the conflict.
“Chinese people can fully relate to the pains and sufferings of other countries because we will never forget who had bombed our embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia,” a spokesperson for the mission said.
“We need no lecture on justice from the abuser of international law . . . Nato continues to expand its geographical scope and . . . needs to have good reflection.”
Nato bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade during the war in Kosovo. A US guided missile hit the Chinese embassy in the city, killing three journalists. The US apologised for the strike and said the missile was intended to hit a nearby military facility.
China has said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine reflected “legitimate security concerns” at Nato’s eastward expansion.
